Wire - Change Becomes Us mp3 album

It feels like an album that could have come out in the late 70's or 2013, honestly. There are a lot of spellbinding moments, and a few that don't leave a huge impression at first, but overall, this is a very good piece of work. Or consider a donation?

Yet Change Becomes Us, the group’s 13th album, does, in fact, revisit the past. Each song on the album, in some shape or form, takes root in a sketch or idea from 1979-1980, nine of which were recorded live for the raw, somewhat harsh collection, Document and Eyewitness. Yet, on that album, the songs were still in pupal stage, underdeveloped and likely never intended for a proper studio recording. Wire has had a streak of strong albums and EPs for the past decade, but there’s a simplicity and a beauty to this album that hasn’t been so pronounced since the ’80s, and even then, sometimes didn’t feel quite right. A song like Doubles & Trebles sounds like classic Wire - three chords, artfully stoic lyrics from Colin Newman, one-note interludes, subversive hooks - which makes it less surprising that it, originally titled Ally In Exile, actually dates back more than 30 years.

In March 2013 the band released Change Becomes Us, their 13th studio album, which was very well received. Their fourteenth album, eponymously titled Wire, was released in April 2015. The following year, in April 2016, the band's 15th studio album, entitled Nocturnal Koreans, was released on their label Pinkflag.

We’re hugely excited to bring you the new record from the legendary Wire. Change Becomes Us’ is the band’s thirteenth record since they started out with their debut ‘Pink Flag’ in 1977. When we asked frontman Colin Newman to describe the record for us, he said: Existing in a timewarp between 1980 & 2020, ‘Change Becomes Us’ fuses elements of undeveloped historic material with the current band’s forward-looking soundworld. Wire are playing the new album in its entirety at Heaven in London on Sunday March 24th ahead of the record’s release on Monday March 25th

Change Becomes Us is the thirteenth studio album by British post-punk band Wire Contents. The album features songs based on ideas from 1979/1980 that were originally quick sketches for live performances. In particular, "Doubles and Trebles", "Keep Exhaling", "Reinvent Your Second Wheel", "Stealth of a Stork", "Time Lock Fog", "Eels Sang", "Love Bends", "& Much Besides" and "Attractive Space" are reworked versions of "Ally in Exile", "Relationship", "ZEGK HOQP", "Witness to the Fact", "5/10", "Eels.

In effect, Change Becomes Us is a veritable compendium of everything that Wire has been up to since the late '70s, combining the bristling energy of the good old days, the electronic textures of the '80s forays, and the heftier rock of its 2000s output. Sure, you might get a déjà-vu-like inkling that Wire is blasting back to the past even if you don't know the backstory behind Change Becomes Us when you hear the tense, coiled riffs and Colin Newman's spoke-sung vocals on the opener "Doubles & Trebles". Certainly, Change Becomes You succeeds in its attempt to reinvent the wheel - or "Re-Invent Your Second Wheel", as the title of one of the album's best tracks puts it aptly. But even on that number, which starts with 154's punk experimentalism, then streamlines and sharpens it, Wire accomplises something more than doing the same thing well, only differently.

Maybe Wire did it right? Since forming in London in 1976, they've only had one member change in the band (Bruce Gilbert left during a hiatus in the 80s so he could focus on his ambient electronic projects). Most bands who are around for over four decades have gone through multiple line-up changes. Sure, Wire has gone through breaks since they impressed the punk world with Pink Flag (1977) and Chairs Missing (1978), but the breaks seemed strategic and, I imagine, were necessary to keep the band members sane. Now, they've announced the release of their 13th studio album, Change Becomes.
