The lineup included former Weather Reporters Victor Bailey, Peter Erskine and Robert Thomas J. as well as guitarist Steve Khan. It can be regarded as a precursor to The Zawinul Syndicate. Weather Report was an American jazz fusion band of the 1970s and early 1980s. The band was initially co-led by the Austrian-born keyboard player Joe Zawinul, the American saxophonist Wayne Shorter and Czech bassist Miroslav Vitouš. Other prominent members at various points in the band's lifespan included bassists Alphonso Johnson, Jaco Pastorius and Victor Bailey; and sts Peter Erskine, Alex Acuña, Airto Moreira, and Chester Thompson

Black Market is an instrumental jazz fusion album released by Weather Report in 1976. This album was produced by Joe Zawinul and Wayne Shorter. It was recorded in December 1975 and released in April 1976 through Columbia Records. Columbia released it again as a digitally remastered CD in 1991. This is Weather Report's seventh overall album and the first with the bass player Jaco Pastorius who features on two tracks.

Other special projects have included an adventurous solo album, Dialects (1986), and work as producer and arranger on Salif Keita’s landmark album, Amen (1991)

Josef Erich "Joe" Zawinul (July 7, 1932 – September 11, 2007) was an Austrian jazz keyboardist and composer. First coming to prominence with saxophonist Cannonball Adderley, Zawinul went on to play with trumpeter Miles Davis, and to become one of the creators of jazz fusion, an innovative musical genre that combined jazz with elements of rock and world music. Later, he co-founded the groups Weather Report and The Zawinul Syndicate.

Joe Zawinul's jazz group Weather Update gave this concert at the Munich Philharmonie. Alongside Zawinul on synthesisers are Victor Bailey on bass, Bobbie Thomas Junior and Peter Erskine on percussion, and Steve Khan on guitar.
