Blessing in Disguise is the third studio album by American heavy metal band Metal Church, released on February 7, 1989. It was the band's final release on Elektra Records. This was the first album not to feature the vocals of David Wayne, due to his departure to form the band Reverend. Blessing In Disguise was everyone's introduction to Howe, and it's a great album full of kick ass tunes. This was a major upgrade from their first two albums so far as songwriting – while the band was always very talented, this album saw them expanding their epic style and varying things up way more than they had in the past, splicing quick thrashers with midtempo epics as well as huge, sorrowful ballads. The sound of Blessing in Disguise, though clearly recognizable as Metal Church, is different enough that those intimate with their earlier work might be hesitant to receive it. Those unfamiliar with the fine institution that is the Metal Church are usually told that they started out as a thrash band and slowly relinquished those darker elements in favor of more traditional/power metal equivalents before finally abandoning them altogether, or some similar tale.

With Blessing in Disguise, Metal Church continue to follow the 80's metal formula of their previous releases, while they include some speed metal elements in their trademark songwriting. However, the overall impact of each genre is not stressed at the expense of its counterpart. This hybrid style is immediately recognizable upon the temporal evolution of the epic opening track "Fake Healer", a song with a powerful mid-tempo time signature based on an intense and original riff. Although it failed to put Metal Church in the first league, Blessing in Disguise is one of the most impressive power/thrash records ever conceived in the 80's. Pros: Fake Healer, Anthem to the Estranged and Badlands Solid musical performance Terry Date’s sound engineering. Cons: Lack of one more epic song on the second half of the album.
