The late Kenny Baker was the fiddler who played with Bill Monroe the longest and was probably his best. Like other members of the band, Kenny recorded his own albums, including this one of Bill Monroe instrumentals. According to one interview, Kenny said he knew he didn't need a session man to play mandolin, that Bill would want to be on it, and sure enough, he turned up to record his parts! The performance and recording quality is excellent. I wanted this especially it for "Wheel Hoss" which is in stereo, whereas the original was in mono .
