Le Mystere Des Voix Bulgares: Ritual. If the first collection of song seduced you, Ritual will make you stay abed in sound and whisper in ways you've never imagined. I wanted to play them both at once, all of their recordings and drown in the sound of notes so delicately dissected from the scale that each subsequent tone slipped into my mind like an appearing line of flawless dancers from the ballet Russe.

In general, the songs are relatively short (though there are a good number of them comprising the album). There are also ample instrumental passages sprinkled here and there throughout the album; something of a surprise in an album from a group known solely for their vocal abilities. The first pressing of the Voix Bulgares album was the result of fifteen years of work by Swiss ethnomusicologist and producer Marcel Cellier and was originally released in 1975 on his small Discs Cellier label. Ivo Watts-Russell, the founder of the 4AD Records label, was introduced to the choir from a third or fourth generation audio cassette lent to him by Peter Murphy, singer from the band Bauhaus. He became thoroughly entranced by the music, and tracked down and licensed the recordings from Cellier.
