Horace Silver Quintet / Sextet - The Jody Grind mp3 album

Overlooked and underappreciated, The Jody Grind is easily one of Horace Silver's most complete efforts. There isn't one song that outshines "Song for my Father," but, solo for solo, song by song, A to B side, each selection builds upon the last creating a most satisfying listen. And, at 40 minutes long, it is never too cumbersome or underwhelming. Always a refreshingly funky expression of hard bop when nothing else will suffice.

Recorded at the Van Gelder Studio, Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey on November 2, 1966 (quintet) and November 23, 1966 (sextet). VAN GELDER stamped in dead wax. No ear. Other Versions (5 of 10) View All. Cat.

Their public performances and frequent recordings for Blue Note Records increased Silver's popularity, even through changes of personnel. His most successful album was Song for My Father, made with two iterations of the quintet in 1963 and 1964  . Horace Silver – The Jody Grind". Retrieved December 19, 2015.
