The album was essentially recorded in three sessions: May-June 1968 with Peter Jenner,April 1969 with Malcolm Jones and July-August with former bandmates David Gilmour and Roger Waters.

Roger Keith "Syd" Barrett (6 January 1946 – 7 July 2006) was an English singer, songwriter, and musician who co-founded the band Pink Floyd in 1965. Barrett named the group and was their original lead singer, guitarist and principal songwriter. He was ousted in April 1968 after David Gilmour took over as their new guitarist and was briefly hospitalised amid speculation of mental illness and his excessive use of psychedelic drugs.

The Best of Syd Barrett: Wouldn't You Miss Me? is a compilation album by Syd Barrett released in 2001 that spans Barrett's entire solo career. Comprising highlights from Syd Barrett's two 1970 albums The Madcap Laughs (seven songs), Barrett (nine songs), and the 1988 out-takes collection Opel (four songs), the album was issued to service casual Barrett fans who presumably would only require one disc of his music.

They were British public school boys, whose experimental progressive rock band, led by Peter Gabriel, attracted for much of the 1970s a fervent, mainly young male, following. But then in the 1980s, the Phil Collins-led Genesis kicked into an altogether different, more pop, sound, attracting a massive following - including many young women fans. In the process, they became one the most successful bands in the world. Their 1986 album Invisible Touch, for example,.

The pink floyd and syd barrett story (DVD). 50-minute documentary originally produced in 2001 for BBC TV’s ‘Arena’ about the early days of Pink Floyd. Features 2001 interviews with Bob Klose, Roger Waters, David Gilmour, Richard Wright, and Nick Mason. Extras include Robyn Hitchcock performing ‘Dominoes’ and ‘It Is Obvious’, and Graham Coxon performing ‘Love You’. Directed by John Edginton. An introduction to syd barrett. Released on October 4, 2010, this is the first compilation of Pink Floyd tracks together with Syd Barrett solo material.

Pink Floyd Mark 1 was already on the skids by early 1968 when work began on their second album. During the course of the recording Syd Barrett was eased aside in favour of the new boy, Dave Gilmour. Incorrectly sensing the end, managers Peter Jenner and Andrew King jumped ship. PJ: It was really stressful waiting for Syd to come up with the songs for the second album. Everybody was looking at him, and he couldn’t do it. Jugband Blues is a really sad song, the portrait of a nervous breakdown.
