Issued in 1988,Slave 88 was a great follow-up album to 1987's Monster Funk Album,"Make Believe". While "Make Believe" was chock full of sizzling guitar licks, keyboards and heavy bass riffs making a sound reminiscent of their first two albums back in 1977;"Slave 88" had more of the smooth & polished feel of earlier singles like "Just a Touch of Love","Watching You" and "Steal Your Heart"

Slave is the first album by the American funk band Slave, released in 1977. The album reached number six on the Billboard Top Soul Albums chart and was certified Gold. The single from the album, "Slide", reached number one on the Billboard soul chart and 32 on the Hot 100. Original members at this point included Steve Washington, Mark "Drac" Hicks, Mark Adams, Danny Webster, Floyd Miller, Carter Bradley, Orion Wilhoite, Tim Dozier and Tom Lockett.

1988 - Slave - Slave 88 ] Grad58. A good try, but by the late '80s, Slave's brand of grinding, syncopated horn- laced funk was passe in urban contemporary circles. By this time, they had also lost Steve Arrington, Steve Washington, Tom Lockett, Curt Jones, and Starlena Young, effectively stripping them of their guts, vocal core, and creative energy. The new musicians were fine players, but the new Slave didn't have the flair or the gritty drive of its predecessors. Electronic, Funk, Soul Source.
