At The Gates - Terminal Spirit Disease mp3 album
This album is a mix, incredibly successful, between the power of trash metal, progressive death metal and the Gotheburg scene melody. Thus, These album singles consist of ear-catching death progressive riffs that alternate marvellously with melodic riffs and some of these hard trash parts perfectly composed. The all take its best shape owed to the arrangement of the Björler bros. The trash/black voice of Thomas Lindberg is in a perfect suitability with.
Terminal Spirit Disease exists in a twilight between two polarizing eras - lacking the adventurous song structures of the Alf era, or the overt mainstream style of SoTS. Instead, we get songs that are longer and more complex than SoTS, but still in the same basic verse/chorus format. Although this guarantees that purists in both camps will find something to dislike about Terminal Spirit Disease (hence the generally low score), this is actually a fucking killer little album that does not get due recognition. I actually find myself spinning this album more than either of them. Despite how overlooked it is, it's an underrated classic that at least deserves a listen from any discerning metal fan.
With their third album, 1994's highly accomplished Terminal Spirit Disease, Sweden's At the Gates raised their creative stakes beyond most everyone's original expectations, and proved that what had once been a pretty standard and uninventive death metal combo was slowly becoming a true contender in the scene. Yet they never waver from the band's predetermined path of virulent aggression, and, best of all, keep it all short and sweet for maximum effect. And with extreme (or nonextreme, as it were) experiments like the all-acoustic and cello-laced "And the World Returned," At the Gates showed a willingness to diversify that would soon prove their mettle. What ultimately knocks a few points off Terminal Spirit Disease's total score is its short running time. At a paltry six new songs and three live recordings of older material, it feels more like an EP than a real album at times.

The brilliance of Anders Bjorler's lead guitar work is evident here in his neo-classical solo that he throws down over the verse rhythm. Another lovely and delicate track. As I was preparing to give this album a 4/5, I realized that even despite all it's shortcomings, I still find it in rotation alot more than any other At The Gates album. While pondering this point, another one was thrust forth from the depths of my sub-conscious. This album has a distinctly more forlorn and doomed-like feel to it, a trait absent form their 1995 masterpiece 'Slaughter Of The Soul'.
