The best Soundgarden songs are culled from the band's lengthy and rich history, as they formed all the way back in 1984 and achieved an incredible measure of commercial success during the grunge heyday in the 1990s. The 10 Best Soundgarden songs are hard to choose for several reasons, but mostly because they have assembled an expansive catalog that transcends the "grunge" tag, since they existed as an entity years before "grunge" was a category and term. They also honed their sound, which allowed them continued success as grunge and all its offshoot bands began to wane in popularity. Check out our list of the 10 Best Soundgarden Songs below: 10.

Soundgarden is widely considered one of the best alternative rock bands. Formed in Seattle, Washington in 1984 by Chris Cornell, with lead guitarist Kim Thayil, Soundgarden were one of the creators of the '90s "grunge" sound. Their Superunknown (1994) yielded the Grammy award-winning singles "Black Hole Sun" and "Spoonman. This Soundgarden discography is ranked from best to worst, so the top Soundgarden albums can be found at the.

They were rooted in the past. Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin were early signposts for the band. With Chris Cornell's larynx-shredding vocals and Kim Thayil's chugging guitars, they pretty much helped shape heavy music in an era when most hard rock was dominated by spandex-clad halfwits disguised as musicians

Soundgarden achieved its biggest success with the 1994 album Superunknown, which debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 and yielded the Grammy Award-winning singles "Spoonman" and "Black Hole Sun". In 1997, the band broke up due to internal strife over its creative direction. After more than a decade of working on projects and other bands, Soundgarden reunited in 2010, and Republic Records released their sixth studio album, King Animal two years later. I think, and this is now with some distance in listening to the records, but on the outside looking in with all earnestness I think Soundgarden made the best records out of that scene. I think we were the most daring and experimental and genre-pushing really and I'm really proud of it. And I guess that's why I have trepidation about the idea of re-forming.

Best song by Soundgarden in my opinion, and one of the few music videos that haven't made me laugh. Live to Rise is a good Soundgarden song. Not their best, but is still fantastic. The song works very well with the first Avengers movie (it should since it was made for the movie). Did I mention it was the first song Soundgarden fully recorded since the 90's. It has it all, strongest song on the best album. Super power drum lines, epic guitar solo, love it so much. well it was actually Chris Cornell "Reach Down" when he was in Temple Of The Dog. This was the second song I'd heard from Chris Cornell as a vocalist.

Soundgarden - Superunknown (A&M, 1994). The late Chris Cornell was a man of many talents, quite apart from his unearthly vocal range. Prominent among them was his ability to write songs that fused hard rock with a pop-influenced melodic sensibility and present them to the masses with total conviction. It certainly helped that grunge – the Seattle sound in which his band, Soundgarden, emerged – was based on a blend of singable choruses, metal riffs and a sense of nihilistic doom, all of which suited the band’s ethos perfectly
