Features Song Lyrics for Echo & The Bunnymen's Songs To Learn & Sing album. Echo & The Bunnymen - Songs To Learn & Sing Album Lyrics. 1. Bring On The Dancing Horses Lyrics.

Songs to Learn & Sing marked the Bunnymen's cemented place in new wave and relished the crooning ambience of frontman Ian McCulloch.

Heaven Up Here, the Bunnymen’s second album, is an eerie, groovy, at times harrowing set that proved we were going into uncharted territory, where no band of the time could even contemplate going, McCulloch boasted years later (and there’s a lot more where that came from). The leap in sophistication was undeniable, and if they had disbanded after this one - or, frankly, if McCulloch had died, as Ian Curtis had a year earlier - who knows how much higher its critical reputation might stand today. 2. Bring On The Dancing Horses (from the Songs To Learn & Sing compilation, 1985). A curious motif runs through the Bunnymen that must spring from some deeper well of experience than rock ‘n’ roll: their affinity with the natural world, and especially animals. It’s there in the elemental staging of the first four album covers (forest, beach, glacier, primeval watery cave).

Echo & the Bunnymen is the fifth studio album by the English post-punk band Echo & the Bunnymen, their last with drummer Pete de Freitas, who died in 1989 in a motorcycle accident, aged 27. The album was produced by Laurie Latham who recorded the album in Germany, Belgium, London and Liverpool; this followed an aborted attempt at recording the album without de Freitas and with producer Gil Norton.

Like the Cure’s “Standing On A Beach,” “Songs To Learn and Sing” is the essence of Echo and The Bunnymen.” There are many out there who will say that Echo and The Bunnymen are more then a singles band ... I would point out that as of this release in 1985, the group had but four albums, three EPs, no less then fourteen singles, and some of those singles where double sided hits ... which pretty much makes them a singles band. From there, I would then go on to ask, “What is so wrong with being a singles band?” Each song found here is relentless in its nature, reflecting not only the values and art of Echo and The Bunnymen, but the songs from all of their albums that stand the test of time ... linger in your mind, and cause your hand to reach for an album by this band. So why not reach for an album that will bring a smile to your face with every “single” tune? Exactly ... “Songs To Learn And Sing” is more then a compilation, at this time in the band’s career, this album is the alpha and omega of Echo material. This release holds its own, it is very dark, esoteric, filled with swirling guitars, a driving rhythm, and stories that exist somewhere in the wee hours of the morning ... everything a Goth / neo psychedelic album of the day should have been. Because of the strength of each of these numbers, “Songs To Learn And Sing” will hold up much better then the source material ... though again, I would have to question whether their albums were built around singles, or singles rose from the albums. Either way, all of the music you are going to find here is wonderful, pure bliss ... from an underestimated band, one who never seemed to achieve the success they so rightly deserved, forever standing in the shadow of The Cure.Go on, I’m holding this and any other release by Echo and The Bunnymen, which are you going to choose?Review by Jenell Kesler

Ocean Rain, the greatest album of all time, in the opinion of Mac and me.
Bearus
I would choose either Porcupine, or Ocean Rain. and from the later eras, Evergreen or Flowers.

I don't think that's what people mean by "singles band." What they mean when they call a band a "singles band" is that the band's best work is in the singles, and the albums are weighed down with filler. They don't mean that a band has released many singles.
