In the Pocket is the ninth studio album by the Commodores, released by Motown Records in 1981. The album only had two singles as well, I feel the best song on the album is the song Lucy. In the Pocket Q&A. However, In The Pocket would become Sedaka's best-known Elektra album because of its second single, the duet he performed with his daughter Dara, "Should've Never Let You Go" which charted at on the Billboard Hot 100 and at on the Adult Contemporary charts in 1980. It was a remake of a 1978 song, "Should've Never Let Her Go" from the album All You Need Is the Music, which Sedaka had sung solo.

IN THE POCKET was Lionel Richie's last album with the Commodores. By the time he exited the band in late 1982, they had gone from being hard-core R&B funksters to masters of the pop power ballad, due to the overwhelming influence of Richie. This album is miles away from previous offerings like CAUGHT IN THE ACT, MOVIN' ON, HOT ON THE TRACKS and the group's self-titled LP that contained smoldering funk and deep, infectious grooves, so don't expect to find much of that here. However, this album does has some highlights worth hearing. Overall, IN THE POCKET has more strengths than weaknesses. If you're comparing it to any Commodores LP recorded before 1978, well, of course it will come up short. But if you really enjoy this band's music, then it's a sure bet that you'll want to jump on this.

In the Pocket, released in 1981, turned out to be his final album with the group. But while In the Pocket isn't among the Commodores' essential releases, it was still a pleasant way for Richie to end his association with the Southern band. It is the last Commodores album to feature Lionel Richie, as he left the band to start a solo career the following year This album contained two hit singles, "Oh No" (. The single was released on January 31,1985 in the United States. For the Marvin Gaye verse his song Whats Going On is mentioned, while in the Jackie Wilson verse his song Higher and Higher is mentioned, as well as a reference to Wilsons hit Baby Work Out. This song, which was recorded in 1984, was the first hit attained by the Commodores following Lionel Richies departure from the group. Although the band was against the decision to release it as a single.
