Richie Cole (born February 29, 1948) is an American jazz saxophonist, composer, and arranger. He has recorded over fifty albums, including his top hit album Hollywood Madness (Muse, 1979) and his tribute album to Leonard Bernstein, Richie Cole Plays West Side Story (Music Masters, 1997). He was appointed to the Board of the National Jazz Service Organization and the Board for the National Endowment for the Arts where he served as chairman for one year. On this enjoyable CD, bebop altoist Richie Cole performs seven of the main themes from West Side Story, plus his own complex "West Side Blues. Cole teams up with his longtime guitarist Vic Juris, pianist Lou Forestieri, bassist Ed Howard, drummer Tommy Campbell and veteran percussionist Ray Mantilla to give the familiar melodies his "alto madness" treatment, being respectful of the themes while stretching out. Highlights include "America," "Maria" and "Tonight.

Richie Cole (born February 29, 1948) is a jazz alto saxophonist born in Trenton, New Jersey, . and is a graduate of Ewing High School, Ewing New Jersey. He started on alto saxophone when he was ten, encouraged by his father who owned a jazz club in New Jersey. Winning a scholarship, he attended Berklee College of Music for two years before beginning his professional career. He is widely known for his creative jazz/bebop style of play. He has two daughters, Amanda and Annie, and three grandchildren.

Alto saxophonist Richie Cole's classic album Pure Imagination is a rich blend of old and new, jazzy and bluesy, with the title track ballad (from the brilliant 1970s film Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory) being a sublime duet between jazz guitar and Cole's in-the-pocket solo work on alto
