Styx - The Complete Wooden Nickel Recordings mp3 album

Styx is the self-titled debut album by American rock band Styx. It was released in 1972. The band started as a cover band who played events such as weddings and birthday parties. They called themselves "The Tradewinds" in 1961, when the band was composed of, at 12 years of age, Chuck and John Panozzo, who played bass guitar and drums, respectively, and their neighbor, 14-year-old Dennis DeYoung on keyboards, accordion and vocals.

Only for completionists (9%). The fourth album Man of Miracles was my first introduction to Styx. This is definitely NOT a prog album as the music is a straight rock music. However, this is an excellent rock album.

The compilation contains remastered versions of Styx's first four albums, Styx, Styx II, The Serpent Is Rising, and Man of Miracles, which were released by Wooden Nickel Records. It also includes "Unfinished Song", which was previously released as the B-side to the single "Best Thing" and on the 1980 RCA reissue of Man of Miracles (which was entitled Miracles). The four albums contained in this compilation (plus Styx's fifth album, Equinox) were recorded with original itarist John Curulewski and feature a harder, eclectic, and more progressive.

The Styx albums apporach it album by album as the technology improved. On Styx II the guitar tone would approach the sound of Deep Purple's Machine Head, but it sounds a little earlier and less over-driven here. s voice and the lead guitars are clearly being showcased, but the musicianship of the band as a whole as well as having multiple lead singers are also being displayed. makes his first appearance on lead vocals with A Day. Stunningly different for those not familiar with the Wooden Nickel years. A dreamy sound with what I think is a Rhodes piano. Then the instrumental break - with jazz bass and drums?

The bands Wooden Nickel recordings Styx, Styx II, The Serpent Is Rising and Man of Miracles were a mixture of rock with some dramatic prog-rock flourishes. These albums showcase intricate and powerful organ, guitar, vocal, the Serpent Is Rising would foreshadow later endeavors by the group-the concept album is an idiom upon which Styx would rely heavily by the 1980s. Then, the power ballad Lady, began to some radio time, first on WLS in Chicago in 1974. Come Sail Away – The Styx Anthology is a musical album by Styx, released on May 4, 2004. It is a compilation consistin. mage: Come Sail Away The Styx Anthology.

Wooden Nickel Records - was a record label started in 1971 by Bill Traut, Jim Golden and Jerry Weintraub as a successor of Dunwich Records. Wooden Nickel mostly released music by acts based in the Chicago area, such as the Siegel Schwall Band, Megan McDonough and Styx.

Remastered and repackaged, this is a treasure trove for die-hard Styx fanatics waiting for a proper reissue of their early works. This two-disc set comprises their first four records under the Wooden Nickel imprint: Styx, Styx II, The Serpent Is Rising and Man of Miracles.

Best Thing" was also on the first Styx album. The four albums contained in this compilation (plus Styx's fifth album, Equinox) were recorded with original itarist John Curulewski and feature a harder, eclectic, and more progressive sound when compared to subsequent albums that included Curulewski's replacement, itarist Tommy Shaw.
