Seven was the fourth studio album from English alternative rock band James, released February 1992. Half of the album was produced by Youth, but after being unimpressed with some of the early records the band's studio time ran out, so the band produced the rest of the album itself with the help of Steve Chase. The song, "Ring the Bells", was featured in the season 3 episode of The X-Files, ". All songs written by Tim Booth, Larry Gott and Jim Glennie. Born of Frustration" – 4:21.

Melodic and cute as its big singles are, Gold Mother is a fruitfully diverse, imaginative album. Government Walls is raw in its political up-frontness, while God Only Knows, with its Jimmy Swaggart samples and precision-swearing, is an uncompromising blast at TV evangelists. The title-track is a cauldron of brass and boldness, and Hang On is a scorched love-gone-askew song. Perhaps the secret of James’ longevity and wide reach is evident throughout Gold Mother. It’s often savage, sometimes bitter, and always loaded with ideas
James completely revamped their lineup for Gold Mother, adding a violinist, a keyboardist, and a trumpeter to the band and attempting to write grand, ambitious arena-rock that recalled U2 and the Waterboys. Although a few of the tracks captured the sprawling, epic splendor that James wished to achieve, they have difficulty writing convincing material, and they aren't nearly as interesting as they were when they concentrated on jangling folk-pop.
