Floodland is the second studio album by English gothic rock band the Sisters of Mercy. It was released on 13 November 1987 through Merciful Release and WEA, with Elektra Records handling the US release. After the release of the band's debut album, First and Last and Always (1985), members Craig Adams and Wayne Hussey departed the band, leading to the band's disbandment. As a result, band frontman Andrew Eldritch formed a side project, The Sisterhood, and recorded new material with them

The second Sisters of Mercy album, released November 1987. It reached on the UK album charts, and three hit singles were released from it: This Corrosion (September 1987, on UK chart); Dominion (February 1988, and Lucretia My Reflection (June 1988, The band lineup on 'Floodland' was nominally Andrew Eldritch and Patricia Morrison. Morrison's musical contribution has been disputed,.

Floodland was released in 1987 and marked only a slight difference in the band’s sound. To begin with, on this album The Sisters of Mercy consist of two members less. Wayne Hussey and Gary Marx left the band leaving all guitar duties on this album to Andrew Eldrich. To make a long story short, Floodland is basically an Eldrich solo album under The Sisters’ moniker whereas First and Last and Always featured contributions by all members but mostly Wayne Hussey and Gary Marx.

While the earlier Sisters releases were noisy, sometimes harsh affairs, Floodland is filled with lush production (thanks to Meat Loaf writer/producer Jim Steinman and the New York Choral Society) and lyric imagery that is both scary and glorious. The slower tracks, like "Flood" and "1959," are some of the best ethereal sounds goth has to offer, and the downright regal "This Corrosion" is one of the best songs of the genre. A definite milestone.

Floodland is the second studio album by English rock band The Sisters of Mercy. It was released on 13 November 1987 by Merciful Release and Warner Music Group. The recording of the album began in January 1987, roughly two years after the band disbanded following the departures of band members Craig Adams and Wayne Hussey. It was produced by Larry Alexander, band frontman Andrew Eldritch, and Jim Steinman while being recorded at Power Station Studios in Manhattan, Strawberry Studios in Manchester, The Wool Hall in Bath, and AIR Studios in London.

The sisters of mercy mmmm say no more. I never worried about stupid labels, I just put the album on and if it sucked, I threw it out. Also, Floodland has decidedly "morbid" and apocalyptic bent/themes running all through it, and Andy's voice, as always, is very much on the doomy side of things, that cannot be denied. to This Corrosion is clearly a "gothic" touch, at least. Does this help at all?
