Magna Carta - In Concert mp3 album

Concertgebouw Amsterdam Thursday 4th November 1971 at . 0. Dedicated to our friend Liesbeth List''. Released in a gatefold cover on a ''swirl" Vertigo label. No printing on spine.

One of the six Magna Carta albums that went gold in Europe, In Concert was recorded live in Amsterdam in 1971, and remains one of the most atmospheric concert recordings of its age. A wonderful venue (the Concertgebouw), an appreciative audience, and a genuinely intimate selection of songs result in performances that cannot even be compared to their studio counterparts. They're not better, they're not worse, they're just delightfully different, spun with a spontaneity and warmth that truly place the listener stage center.

Magna Carta is a progressive rock/folk rock group originally formed in London in April 1969; their first concert was on 10 May 1969, by Chris Simpson (guitar, vocals), Lyell Tranter (guitar, vocals), and Glen Stuart (vocals). The trio released albums for Fontana Records and Vertigo Records, enjoying particular success with 1970's Seasons before Tranter returned to Australia.

MAGNA CARTA - IN CONCERT AMSTERDAM 1971 (New & Sealed) CD. This album is a fine example of how good the band were, capturing the essence of their music from 1971 in Carre Amsterdam. Country Jam. Seven O'clock Hymn Midwinter.

If any track portrays Magna Carta and the Seasons/Lord Of The Ages era sound this was i. Sea Of Sands' and ' Ring Of Stones' are great live also. I may be a grumpy old man, but I do not find Magna Carta live that enjoyable. This live album is half a half serious music and the rest is jokes. Both verbal and some joky tracks. Musically, this band was a pretty good folk rock band. I am not sure where their prog rock credentials comes from. That is, with the exception of a couple of tracks. One of their two "epics" is here too, without making this album any better. Magna Carta is at their best in the same class and style as Simon & Garfunkel. At their worst; a handful of jokes.

A gentle potpourri of influences is brought to bear in the music of Magna Carta, now one of the longest surviving British groups born of the early Seventies. Although they eschewed the phrase ‘folk’ and claimed rock’n’roll roots, the group founded by Yorkshire born Chris Simpson was essentially acoustic in nature and melodic in style. The trio came together in Cambridge in 1969 with Simpson, Lyell Tranter and Glen Stuart sharing the vocals and guitar work

Simpson and Stuart were then joined by Stan Gordon (guitar), recording and releasing the much-lauded Lord Of The Ages (texts from this album and Seasons were used as part of the English syllabus in several European countries). Graham Smith (bass), who had played on the sessions for Lord Of The Ages, was also added to the line-up but shortly afterwards both he and Gordon left.

Fantastic record. One of my favourite "folk rock" listens. Well recorded, not a bad track on the album.
