Savage Nomads, for Cole and guitarist Josh Miles, was eight years of exploring. Over several singles and an album on the Alaska Sounds label, this formative band shifted from punk rock to spoken word experiments, to blues and funk and all-out pop, hunting out their true identity. Along the way they snuck onto minor festival bills (Beach Break, Strummerville) and support slots with The Jim Jones Revue, Big Audio Dynamite and Adam Ant, into 6 Music and NME and onto Visconti’s radar. When Savage Nomads split in 2015, Cole and Josh quickly recruited Josh’s guitarist brother Benjy and met their bassist Tom Williams online for their new project. drummer Harry Pike wouldn’t come on board until a mad scramble for a sticksman following the Visconti session early in 2017). Me and Cole couldn’t help keep things going, says Josh, Why would you want to stop?

The Savage Nomads were a mostly Puerto Rican and African American street gang started in the southern area of the Bronx, New York during the late 1960s, gaining popularity in the 1970s. The gang was involved in a number of running battles with rival gangs Seven Immortals, Savage Skulls, and the Dirty Dozen. The Savage Nomads were alleged to be involved in numerous small crime activities in the New York City area. In 1979 the gang was one of many featured in the documentary film 80 Blocks from Tiffany's.
